Why Warm the Streets?

The ASF Executive Director, Kenya K., started Warm the Streets because she was outraged by the number of people sleeping on the concrete in Downtown LA while big business was happening around them. She shared her experience of seeing tents and sleeping bags on the ground, the sight pushed her to want to give back. She asked herself, "whose responsibility is it to serve these folks?" There are mothers, fathers, uncles and aunts...the missing pieces to many black families! Yes, black families!

Did you know that African Americans make up 40% of the homeless population while we only make up 9% of the total population in LA County? 

That is our WHY! That is what drives her to continue doing the work that she does through A Step to Freedom and Warm the Streets.
