How to Join

Four Steps to the Movement

From application to active volunteering typically takes 2–3 weeks.

Apply

Complete our online volunteer application. Tell us about yourself, your interests, and your availability.

Background Check

All volunteers working directly with participants undergo background screening. Having a record doesn't automatically disqualify you — we evaluate case by case.

Orientation

Attend volunteer orientation (offered monthly, in-person and virtual). Learn our mission, programs, culture, and expectations.

Training & Placement

Complete role-specific training and get matched with opportunities that fit your skills and schedule. Then show up.

Volunteer Stories

Hear From Our Volunteers

"I came to give back. I left understanding that I was the one receiving. The people I've worked with here have taught me more about resilience than anything else ever could."

David R.

Direct Service Volunteer, 2 years

"As a lawyer, I wanted to use my skills for something that mattered. Volunteering with ASF lets me help people navigate systems that were designed to exclude them. It's the most meaningful work I do."

Jennifer M.

Pro Bono Attorney, 3 years
